Seeds to Grow Food
Over the past six years, Vision Beyond Borders has purchased and distributed over 4 million packs of seeds around the world. These seeds empower orphans, widows, and poor villagers to be able to feed themselves and provide for their basic necessities. We believe it is better to “teach a man how to fish, than to give him a fish.” Thus, we work to give people the basic tools to become self supporting rather than simply handing out money to them. This is the idea behind the seed project.
We work with seed companies across the US to buy discounted vegetable seeds in packs by the millions. We then bundle them, pack them in duffel bags, and carry or ship them into countries around the world. Among the countries we have given seeds to, in varying amounts, are Romania, Laos, Nepal, Pakistan, Mozambique, Burma, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Kenya, and the Congo. We are working on expanding this project to also get seeds to other parts of Central America, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
We hope to see this project double from year to year as we receive reports from parents of their children growing bigger, and the cash crop producing funding for school fees whereby children can attend school. Also the cash crop helps to fund the purchase of basic medicines to help the families. Opium production has dropped as vegetable crops replace them in the fields.
